1. You will want to start interviewing as early as possible. The reason being is many of the top wedding photographers book their weddings sometimes a year in advance. This does not mean your special date is booked. Talk with the photographer and see what can be negotiated to get you fitted with time.
2. Take a look at the photographers experience and technical ability. You will want to choose a photographer who is skilled and accommodate challenging conditions. Since your venue and wedding is one-of-a-kind and cannot be duplicated, make sure your photographer is equipped and ready for any condition.
3. Your relationship with your chosen photographer is key. Wedding photography should not be categorized into the mere business of payment upon delivery of service. Your wedding day requires a photographer’s attention to detail, inspirational touch and the utmost devotion. Choosing the right photographer is an intimate affair. Does your photographer take your wedding event with personal conviction? Is your photographer willing to share his/her personal experiences?
4. Ask all the questions you feel that are necessary to ensure the photographer is the right fit for you. Ask about traditional and current wedding photography trends, and how they will fit into your package. Remember there is no such thing as a dumb or too many questions.
5. When negotiating with your photographer, you will want to make sure you are speaking with someone who can make a decision with regard to pricing, package contents and changes in final deliverables. You will also want to make sure the photographer you are interviewing will be the one who is there at your wedding.
6. You will want to make sure the photographer is skilled in wedding photography. Wedding photography is a specialized field within ‘photography’ as we know it. When interviewing your photographer ask to see a whole documented wedding, so you can accurately judge and make an informed decision about your photographer.
7. Price. For many price is the deciding factor whether the photographer is hired or not. When visiting your photographer, sometimes you will be presented with various packages based on content and price. Keep in mind, the package is a base line in which to start from. If the base package fits your needs – great. If not, ask what can be done to determine a package that will better fit your needs.
